MEMORIES OF FRANK COLE by Gil Zinke

Memories of Frank Cole

I just read Hebrews 11 about heroes of the Faith. Frank and Evelyn were certainly like Abram, leaving their home country to go to a land they did not know except as the land of America’s recent enemy. It became their home, and they are still remembered there with much love.

I mainly remember Frank as Missionary and Tim’s Dad. When I was young I came to know him as a Jokester, and as someone who always had something interesting to say on any topic.

We played a game called concentration in which we tried to memorize the locations of facedown cards so we could turn over the whole set. Frank was acknowledged by all the other missionaries as a whiz at this game. He had a fantastic memory!

I recall one time visiting Coles overnight. Frank made rubber-band guns for me and for Tim. We had fun pretending we were hunting.

As I grew up, learned to appreciate Frank as a Loving Husband to Evelyn, Seminary Teacher  to many Japanese and Advisor to me. He was fully committed to Jesus Christ, and was a great model to me in that.

Even after he began to lose his memory, he continued his lifelong practice of hiking and I enjoyed hiking with him in several places in Japan. He is a treasured Friend, and I look forward to seeing him again in heaven.
